One of HSJ’s longest serving partners is also one of the city’s best known lawyers. Grant Zimmerman is as recognized for his community contributions as he is for his legal achievements and both are substantial. He was the representative for the ownership group that re-started the Mackenzie pulp mill in 2010, the lawyer for the group that catalyzed Prince George’s downtown revitalization movement, was a founder of the Two Rivers Gallery, and he says he gets the inspiration from his upbringing in a similar city of “can do” people in Winnipeg, and from his legal mentor – the S in HSJ – Murray Sadler, who was a leader of the founding group behind UNBC.
“If people think there is something missing, they set out to make it happen,” said Grant, reflecting on the spirit that motivates his work. It might be a land transaction, upscaling a business plan, establishing boundaries between company partners, or setting up a blueprint for when you’re gone, but these forward thinking topics are among Grant’s specialties.
In his areas of legal practice, he gets to champion all kinds of business development, personal growth, and community engagement as he aids his clients through their disputes, their negotiations, their balance sheets, their future goals, and their dreams.

On A Personal Note
Grant invests time and energy into a wide array of community endeavours, too many to name, but some of the highlights include board president of PG Youth Soccer, board president of Two Rivers Gallery, director on BC Hockey’s board, board member of the Downtown Business Improvement Association, president of a BC Liberal riding association, president of the Cariboo’s bar association, and many more.
All these pale in comparison to his active family life. He and wife Allison (also a lawyer for a local lumber firm) are raising their three children into adulthood with all the ample sports, academics, recreation and citizenship opportunities that flourish in Prince George.
“While sometimes it has been crazy busy, we have been fortunate to meet a ton of great people, travel all over BC and beyond, and have lots of wonderful memories that we wouldn’t trade for anything,” he said. The kind of representative you get in Grant is the kind of “all in” parent and community member he has proven himself to be in Prince George.
