Alissa was raised in Edmonton, Alberta. While at law school in Vancouver she also completed the requirements for the Dr. Andrew Thompson Natural Resources Law Certificate. She remains interested in Natural Resources and Environmental Law.

In her spare time, Alissa enjoys outdoor activities and winter activities with her husband and dog, as well as running, camping, golfing, and snow-boarding. Since moving to Prince George, she has become actively involved in the community.

The Law Society of British Columbia has appointed Jan Christiansen as a member and director of the BC Law Institute for a three year term.  The B.C. Law Institute carries out scholarly legal research and promotes the ongoing reform and improvements of the law and the administration of justice.
