Articling Students

At HSJ, our articling students are given responsibility and the chance to develop their skills. By choosing to start your legal career with us you work alongside and are supervised by experienced lawyers offering great work and a large client base. During your training you are encouraged to get involved with and learn about every aspect of building your own practice from marketing to research. With respect to legal services, northern British Columbia is an underserved region of the province. Prince George is an excellent location to experience work that matters: meaningful and exciting legal challenges available early in your career and a chance to quickly expand your client base.

We consider articling your introduction to our firm and the opportunities offered at our law practice in Prince George, with an expectation that if successful, you will consider remaining with us as an associate and, eventually as a partner. We cover the costs of PLTC and the Law Society call and admission fees. We offer family MSP coverage, dental benefits, an extended medical plan and 10 days of paid vacation time. Your salary and benefits are paid during your attendance at PLTC.

Mentoring is an important aspect of your year of articling. You are assigned a Principal that oversees your work. As well, a team of mentors experienced in various areas of legal practice provide work that ensures your learning is well rounded. As a full service law firm, HSJ offers you the flexibility to learn business, family, criminal, or civil law. We offer ongoing professional development and help you transition into an autonomous and productive lawyer. HSJ encourages independence but ensures you have the support you need in your early years.

We are flexible in our start dates and do not expect our articling students to begin articling at the same time. We encourage you to begin PLTC early in your articling year so that it does not break up the flow of your practical training.

Affordable Prince George!
